books/authors I want to read: philosophy & religion
anthologies * children * classics * comedy/satire * crime * dystopia/apocalypse * fantasy * horror * lit. realism * magical realism * nonfiction * philosophy/religion * sci-fi
(I'm making my best guesses about where I'll put reviews. If and when I read these books, I may change my mind.)
See also books I've read before and reading nostalgia

Infinite Jest, by David Foster Wallace (pub. 1996)

Paradise Lost, by John Milton (pub. 1667)
Something I've always wanted to read (or at least since I heard Kirk quote it in an episode of Star Trek).

Republic, by Plato (written c. 380 BC)

Thus Spoke Zarathustra, by Friedrich Nietzsche (pub. 1883-1891)
There might be other works by Nietzsche that would interest me, but this is the main one I'd like to get around to reading someday. I have no idea if I ever will, but I'd like to.
