Gotham City Sirens
DC Comics; DC Database; DC Universe Infinite; GCD; TV Tropes; Wikipedia
This ran for 26 issues between 2009 and 2011. Since I've been a fan of all the main characters (Catwoman, Poison Ivy, and especially Harley Quinn) for years, I decided it was definitely worth checking out. Of course, there was lots of specific history alluded to about which I knew pretty much nothing, which can't help but detract from my enjoyment of a story. Even so, I definitely thought the stories were mostly pretty decent. Still, I guess my interest waned over time. To be honest, probably the biggest draw was always the fanservice. I mean, these three women (and other characters in the series) were ridiculously hot. And I certainly don't have any objections to comic book characters being drawn hot, but when it gets to the point that the stories are less important to me than the eye candy, I think it's time to quit. I did stick with it until issue 15 (which surprises me, now that I check my collection; I would have thought I quit sooner than that), but that's as far as I got. (If I'd known the series would end just about a year later, I might have kept with it to the end, but how could I know that?) Ah well, no regrets.
Titans
DC Comics; DC Database; GCD; TV Tropes; Wikipedia
This ran for 38 regular issues between 2008 and 2011, though it actually started with a one-shot called "Titans East." Since I was a fan of the much more cartoony and younger-skewing animated series Teen Titans, when I saw this at my LCS, I decided it was high time I start reading some actual Teen Titans comics. The team had been around in one form or another (Teen Titans, Team Titans, New Titans, just plain Titans, whatever) for decades, in various comic book incarnations that I'd never read. I thought this would be a good place to start, since it was a new title. Unfortunately- and predictably- it referenced all sorts of stuff that had been going on in past comic book titles for years, about which I knew pretty much nothing. It wasn't a bad story, but it didn't really grab me, either. I'm sure I probably would have enjoyed this more if I knew the history, but it ended up being that I was more interested in the book because the girls were ridiculously hot than because of the actual story. So I quit after issue 6. (Looking back at the publication dates, it seems I quit reading this before "Gotham City Sirens" even began, which surprises me, because I could have sworn I was collecting the two series simultaneously, at least for a little while. Oh well, memory's such a funny thing.)
