So... you know, I've had plenty of different calendars over the course of the years, though I suppose there are plenty of them that I haven't kept. I remember one year, must've been mid-90s, I had an Elle MacPherson calendar which was very.. *ahem*, but nevermind that. After the year was over, I tried to sell it in a yard sale or something, but never did. And it got left in the garage, and eventually the elements (which had a nasty habit of finding their way into the garage) ruined it. It's most likely been thrown out long since, and even if it was possible to find it, I'm fairly sure it wouldn't be worth scanning. Sadly.
And then there are other calendars I simply haven't kept because... I didn't find them worth keeping. But I've kept some. I have one with some comic book characters, a few with anime girls, a few with Tinker Bell... The Tink ones were in my Disney Fairies gallery, and the anime girls ones were in my random anime gallery (though some may have moved to specific anime galleries). Then one day, probably in January 2009, I was browsing in Hot Topic, and saw a fairies calendar (of a decidedly un-Disney nature), and while I kinda wanted it, and yet didn't get it, I believe it was at that point that it suddenly occurred to me to start a gallery on my site specifically for calendars. This would mean moving some images from old galleries, and doing some more scanning of some calendars that I hadn't previously scanned. Heck, I might even rescan some that I had, to make more uniform sizes... It also means I wouldn't be limiting myself to calendars the nature of which... was already supported by other galleries. I could include anything here. Doesn't have to be about animated girls. Could be real live girls (like MacPherson), though I'm afraid/proud to say that these days I don't have much of an interest in such calendars... if I'm going to objectify females, I prefer them to be of the nonexistent variety. Still, if I still had that old MacPherson calendar, I'd totally scan it for this gallery. And in theory I might someday get other calendars with real girls.... But it's also possible to have calendars that have nothing to do with girls at all, real or animated. I received one as a gift for Christmas that has photographs of places around Aroostook County, Maine. And for the past couple years, I've thought about getting one with Ukiyo-e (Japanese woodblock prints). I've thought of getting Coca-Cola calendars (which can include drawings of pin-up girls, as well as other things). I used to have some such in years past, I think, but don't currently, alas. But... whatever, there's really no limit to what kind of calendars I might get in the years to come....
Oh, and I also wanted to mention that I must scan calendar pages twice and then paste them together to get the full height, but inexplicably, this means the width may be off. The bed of the scanner looks wide enough to just catch the whole page, left to right, but in fact, it seems as if it misses a bit to one side, so either I could scan three or four times, and do even more pasting, or else content myself with having the edge of the picture trimmed a bit. Which is what I'll usually do, unless there's something at the edge of the picture that I can't afford to do without... Sigh. Damn, I wish I had a big enough scanner to scan a whole calendar page at once. Not just side to side, but top to bottom. Especially when the coloration of each scan I have to paste together might be slightly different for some reason, or the background images may not sync perfectly even if I get the foreground to sync right.... I dunno. Whatever.
And one more note about the Tinker Bell calendars: sometimes different years will reuse the same image, but with a different background, in which case I was planning on only scanning the image from one of the calendars. But I've changed my mind, I think I'll include every month from every year, anyway. Although... since I'm kind of lazy, after I had done all my new scanning for this gallery (under the original plan of skipping some months), when I changed my mind, I decided to just take a couple pics from the old Disney Fairies gallery, and move them here. Which means the size may be slightly different, and there are no links for full sized images of those months....
Oh, and btw, "full" scans open in a new window.
