This is based on a comic book story arc that I haven't read. It's the third movie in the DC Animated Movie Universe. It came out in 2014, but I didn't see it until 2022. I'd had the DVD for some time, and the reason I finally got around to watching it is that I had recently started watching the YouTube channel "Council of Geeks", and as I made my way through the videos from 2014, I came to a short review of this movie, which I wanted to watch after watching the movie. So I did, and it was a pretty negative review. I guess I agreed with some of the points the reviewer made, but not necessarily all of them, and unlike them, I actually liked the movie. It wasn't a great movie, but I found it reasonably entertaining, in spite of some possible flaws.
It begins with an attack against the League of Assassins, staged by a group led by a former member of the League, Slade Wilson (aka Deathstroke, voiced by Thomas Gibson). There are a lot of deaths on both sides of the battle, and a lot of blood. One of the people who is killed is the leader of the League, Ra's al Ghul (Giancarlo Esposito). His daughter, Talia (Morena Baccarin), escapes with her son, Damian, and takes him to Gotham City, to meet his father, Bruce Wayne (aka Batman, voiced by Jason O'Mara), who had no idea Damian existed. Talia leaves Damian with Bruce, while she returns to the headquarters of the League to kill Deathstroke, but she ends up being captured instead. Meanwhile, Damian also wants to find and kill Deathstroke to avenge his grandfather, but Bruce tries to teach him not to be a killer. Also, scientist Kirk Langstrom had been working for Ra's, and now Deathstroke takes over that project, kidnapping Langstrom's wife and daughter as incentive to complete his work more quickly. Langstrom is working on adapting his serum that turns people into Man-bats.
And I guess that's all I want to say about the plot, except that Nightwing (Sean Maher) also gets involved in helping Batman, and doesn't like Damian (who becomes the new Robin). Anyway, I mostly liked the animation, and the action, and I thought the overall story was okay.
