This is, of course, based on the TV show, SpongeBob SquarePants, of which I was never a big fan. The show's alright, though, and the movie is pretty decent. Anyway, Mr. Krabs is opening a second Krusty Krab, and SpongeBob expects to be named its manager. Instead the job goes to Squidward. Meanwhile, Plankton unleashes a plan that finally works: he steals the crown of King Neptune (Jeffrey Tambor), and frames Mr. Krabs for the theft. So, Neptune is going to fry Krabs with his trident, but his daughter Mindy (Scarlett Johansson) gets him to allow SpongeBob and Patrick six days to try to retrieve the crown, which has been sold to someone in Shell City. So, the two of them set off on an adventure, while pursued by a biker assassin kinda guy named Dennis, who was hired by Plankton to exterminate them.
I don't really want to say anything more about the plot or how it all ends, except that it largely revolves around SpongeBob and Patrick coming to the realization that they're both kids (at heart, anyway), and they want to be men. But eventually they realize that it's okay to be kids. This plot point appealed to me, being an eternal kid at heart myself. Although I'm not as dumb or goofy gooberish as these two.... But anyway. A reasonably fun and funny movie, definitely worth seeing once, and I've nothing against the idea of watching it again someday, either.
