12 Angry Men (AFI Catalog; Criterion)
I'm sure I must have seen this on TV at some point, but I definitely need to see it again someday.
20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (AFI Catalog)
The Adventures of Robin Hood (AFI Catalog)
All About Eve (AFI Catalog; Criterion)
Blackboard Jungle (AFI Catalog)
Bringing Up Baby (AFI Catalog; Criterion)
Charade (AFI Catalog; Criterion)
Citizen Kane (AFI Catalog)
Widely considered the greatest film ever made. I saw it once, and it seemed to be about the most boring thing ever made. In fact, it literally felt like it was about 4 or 5 hours long, even though it was just 2. Still, I'd like to see it again someday, to see if I change my opinion.
From Here to Eternity (AFI Catalog)
Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (AFI Catalog)
The Ghost and Mrs. Muir (AFI Catalog)
The Grapes of Wrath (AFI Catalog)
The Great Dictator (AFI Catalog; Criterion)
Guess Who's Coming to Dinner (AFI Catalog)
Heaven Can Wait (Criterion; Great but Forgotten)
Hellzapoppin' (Great but Forgotten)
Here Comes Mr. Jordan (Criterion; Great but Forgotten)
His Girl Friday (Criterion)
I probably saw this on TV sometime. Most likely after having seen "Switching Channels" on VHS, which was more or less a remake of this.
The Incredible Journey
I may have seen this once, but I don't really remember it.
It Happened One Night (Criterion)
Lola (Criterion)
Followed by The Umbrellas of Cherbourg and The Young Girls of Rochefort
Road to Singapore
First in the "Road to..." series, all of which I hope to see someday.
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty
The Shop Around the Corner
If for no other reason, I should see this to serve as a counterpoint to my sister's repeated viewings of "You've Got Mail."
Song of the South
I believe I saw this at a drive-in when I was very young, maybe in the late 70s or very early 80s. Certainly I was too young to be aware of anything controversial about it, but now I'd like to see it with an adult perspective. But that seems unlikely to ever happen.
Toby Tyler
It's possible I saw this once, but I don't remember anything about it.
The Tramp
Charlie Chaplin played this character in various other films, but this is probably the first one I'd want to see. I probably don't need to see all the "Tramp" films, but I should at least check out "The Kid" (Criterion) and "The Gold Rush" (Criterion) and maybe "City Lights" (Criterion).
