Well, I couldn't quite manage to love this film, as I did the original, but I did like it a lot. Actually, it took me awhile to get into it, at first I thought it was just okay. But of course the major action doesn't start til later, and when it does, that's when I started really enjoying the movie.
When Elsa and Anna were little, their father told them a story about when he was young, and the people of Arendelle befriended a tribe of people called the Northuldra, and built a dam for them. The area where they lived was an enchanted forest with four nature spirits- Earth, Water, Air, and Water. The dam was supposed to make their water stronger, somehow, I guess. Anyway, at one point the Northuldra attacked the group that had come from Arendelle, seemingly without reason. Then a mist covered the forest, which wouldn't let anyone in or out. After their father's story, their mother sings to them about a river called Ahtohallan, which holds all the answers about the past.
In the present, Kristoff is planning to propose to Anna, but throughout most of the movie, he fails to get the timing or the words right, and she always misunderstands him, or gets distracted by whatever else is going on (which is generally of more immediate importance). Meanwhile, Elsa begins hearing a voice, singing without words, which no one else can hear. She eventually decides to search for the source of the voice, and of course Anna, Kristoff, and Olaf insist on going with her. Eventually they make it to the enchanted forest, and Elsa's power clears the mist temporarily, so they can enter. There they meet both Northuldrans and Arendellians who have been trapped there for decades, and stop them from fighting each other. I don't want to reveal more of the plot, except to say that Elsa eventually learns the truth about what happened years ago, and Anna acts on that knowledge to undo a terrible wrong that had been done, thereby ridding the forest of the mist and setting everyone free. And of course peace is restored between Arendelle and the Northuldra.
So, the story was suitably epic, with plenty of drama and humor and adventure and songs and whatnot. And yes, Kristoff does finally manage to propose, and Anna says yes. And I don't know what else to tell you. Oh yeah, Elsa rides a horse made of water. That was neat. And Olaf has a post-credits scene.
