This is a direct sequel to The LEGO Movie, and the fourth film in the franchise. For a ways into the film, I didn't like it nearly as much as the first one. But eventually, it started getting better, and by the end I liked it very nearly as much as the first one. It picks up right after the first film left off, with an incident I completely forgot happened at the end of the first film.

Duplo aliens seemingly attack Bricksburg, and the heroes fight back. Five years later, the world is in ruins, and has been renamed Apocalypseburg. Wyldstyle (aka Lucy) is broodier than ever, but Emmet's disposition is as sunny as ever. Lucy wants him to "grow up" and realize that everything is not awesome. He tells her about a nightmare he had that ends in something called "Armomageddon". (Wikipedia spells it "armamageddon", but I heard it slightly differently. I don't know which spelling is correct, but either one works.) Soon after that an alien doll named General Mayhem (Stephanie Beatriz) arrives, and abducts Lucy, Batman, UniKitty, Benny, and MetalBeard. Emmet builds a spaceship to go rescue them, and ends up being rescued, himself, by someone named Rex Dangervest. Together, they continue on to the Systar System, which includes several planets under the rule of Queen Watevra Wa'Nabi (Tiffany Haddish). Meanwhile, Wa'Nabi is planning a wedding for herself and... someone else, I won't say who.

And I don't want to say too much more about the plot. I mean, I am leaving out a ton to avoid spoilers. But there is a happy ending. Anyway... there were a lot of bits I found quite funny, and some good lessons learned. I pretty much predicted what "Armomageddon" was all about immediately, but I still thought the eventual reveal worked really well. And the movie just turned out to be really cool, and sweet.
