This is, of course, the sequel to Rio. Blu and Jewel now have three kids: Carla, Tiago, and Bia. Linda and Tulio are now married, and living together in Rio de Janeiro. However, at the moment, the two of them are on an expedition in the Amazon, where they happen to discover evidence that there may be more Spix's macaws living in the jungle. They make an announcement about it on TV, before actually finding the birds. Blu and Jewel and their kids happen to see them on the news, and they decide to go to the Amazon to find the macaws. There's also some unnamed guy (just called "Big Boss," and voiced by Miguel Ferrer) who sees the news report, and decides to go to the Amazon, himself. At first it was unclear exactly what his interest in the matter was; I assumed he wanted to capture the macaws for himself, but it soon turns out he runs an illegal logging operation, and wants to stop Tulio and Linda from finding the macaws and thereby getting the area declared a protected habitat, which would of course put a stop to his logging. Meanwhile, Nigel the cockatoo has lost the ability to fly, because of injuries sustained in the first movie. He's working for a guy with street show, where there's also a poisonous frog named Gabi (Kristin Chenoweth), who is madly in love with Nigel (though he seems to be oblivious to this fact). When Nigel happens to see Blu and his family, he escapes from his current owner, along with Gabi and an anteater named Charlie, to chase them down and kill them. Of course he'll be trying to catch up to them throughout most of the movie. Also, Pedro, Rafael, and Nico join the macaws on their trip, hoping to find a new musical act in the Amazon, to put on a show at the next Carnival.
Blu and his family eventually meet the hidden flock of macaws, including Jewel's father, Eduardo (Andy Garcia), and her aunt, Mimi (Rita Moreno), and her childhood friend, Roberto (Bruno Mars). Jewel is overjoyed to be reunited with them, but Blu is very much out of his element, in the jungle. And none of the birds trust humans, nor do they allow human things in their hidden home. Which is tough for Blu, because he's brought a fanny pack full of human items with him. And... there's a group of scarlet macaws who have a tenuous truce with the blue macaws, sharing a grove of Brazil nut trees. There is eventually some trouble with them. Also, the loggers capture Tulio and Linda.
I don't want to say any more about the plot, though of course there is ultimately a happy ending. Meanwhile, I thought the whole movie was really fun and funny, and there were good songs. (Most memorable, IMO, were one by Gabi and one by Nigel.) Anyway, it's not as good as the first movie, but I definitely enjoyed it.
