This came out in 2004, and I must have seen it sometime in the 2000s (I don't recall whether I saw it in a theater or on TV or a rental or what). But I didn't write a review until watching it on DVD in 2021, by which time I didn't remember anything specific about it. So it was nice to watch it as if it was for the first time. Definitely a fun movie in a lot of ways, even if not quite as good as the original.

Anyway, after Shrek and Fiona return from their honeymoon, they receive an invitation to a ball in honor of Fiona's marriage, so they return to her home of Far Far Away, though Shrek isn't happy about it. Oh, and of course they're accompanied by Donkey. Fiona's parents, King Harold (John Cleese) and Queen Lillian (Julie Andrews) are shocked that Fiona married an ogre instead of Prince Charming (Rupert Everett), and that Fiona herself has become an ogre, permanently. Harold is especially unhappy about it. Another person who's very upset is the Fairy Godmother (Jennifer Saunders), who we soon learn is Charming's mother, and had made a deal with Harold for Charming to marry Fiona. So now she forces him to get rid of Shrek, which he tries to do by hiring an ogre slayer, Puss in Boots (Antonio Banderas). However, after Puss's initial attack on Shrek fails, they become friends. But the Fairy Godmother and Charming aren't through with their machinations...

Well, a bunch of other stuff happens that I don't want to spoil. But it's all very amusing, and dramatic, and romantic, and of course there's a happy ending. And a nice little mid-credits scene. Also the DVD has a bonus short film called "Far Far Away Idol".
