D-Sides: Monsters (8:20)
Halloween Short Films; Vimeo

Okay, so I discovered this on "Halloween Short Films." Then I did some googling and found that the people who made this made a "D-Sides" series, of which IMDb lists five episodes, but this isn't one of them. I've never seen any other episodes, and probably never will. But I did like this.

A guy walks into a store called D-Sides Records, on Halloween. He's looking for "Monster Mash," but the two guys who work there tell him that's no good, but reveal to him that there's a whole genre of Halloween novelty songs... including one called "Monsters," by Simon and Garfunkel. (Of course that's not true, in real life, but it apparently is within the world of this film.) We see a music video for the song, while the guys are playing the record for the customer. And I definitely think it has a very real Simon & Garfunkel feel (both the sound and the look), even though it is fake. So, that was fun, and funny. But then, after the guy decides he likes the song... um... well, I don't really want to spoil what happens. I'll just say the film takes a totally unexpected turn, parodying the end of a certain movie. For no apparent reason. Seriously, it just seems so totally random, which I liked.
