The first time I remember really becoming aware of the name Guillermo del Toro was when reading about the movie Pan's Labyrinth, which he directed in 2006, I guess (and which I didn't see until several years after I saw this). Though I'd probably heard of him before. Anyway, that sounded like something I'd really like to see. In 2007, he produced "The Orphanage," a Spanish movie which got great reviews, just like "Pan's Labyrinth." So, eventually (probably in 2011) I got the DVD, and watched it. And I decided not to bother writing a review, because... I just didn't care about the movie at all. It's supposed to be scary, but I don't remember ever being scared by it. I'm afraid I don't even remember any of the plot, now (a couple years later), but I'm pretty sure I just found it kind of boring and probably thought that nothing about it made any kind of sense. But I dunno, maybe I liked it slightly better than I remember. (I'm sure I must be wrong not to like it, and I feel bad about that.) In any event, I do wish I'd tried to write a review, at the time, when I actually could have said anything definite about the plot or how I felt about it. Too late now, but at least I can stick this mention of it here. And if you want to know anything specific about it, that's what the links are for.
