This is something I bought because it's Japanese. I don't recall having heard of it before seeing it in the used video store where I bought it, but I may have. Anyway, it came out in 2005, in Japan, and I guess the subtitled DVD came out in 2007. I probably bought it anywhere from 2007 to 2010, and finally watched it in 2014. And, um... it was okay. I probably would have found it a bit more entertaining if I lived in Japan, or something. But anyway, there were parts I did find amusing. And I liked the music. And stuff. I dunno.
Anyway, it's set in 2004, and there are these five girls who had formed a band to perform at their high school cultural festival, which is coming up in a few days. One of the girls, Moe, has to drop out of the band because of an injury to her finger. Another one, Rinko, quit I guess because of a fight she'd had with one of the other girls, Kei. Along with Kei, the remaining girls include Kyoko and Nozomi. And they need to find a fourth member if they're still going to perform. I'm not sure exactly why they didn't still need five members, but I gather it's because they changed their minds about what kind of music they were going to play. One of the girls had been a keyboardist, but now had to learn to play guitar, instead. Anyway, I guess they had been planning on doing original songs, but now they decided to do covers of a few songs by a 1980s Japanese punk band called The Blue Hearts (whom I don't recall having heard of before, but I may have). One of those songs was called "Linda Linda," hence the title of the movie. And... they decide to ask the first girl they see pass by to become their singer. This turns out to be a Korean exchange student named Son, who doesn't speak much Japanese.
And I don't know what else to say about the plot. I will say I wasn't in a great mood when I watched it, because I was watching it on my laptop (as I often do), and part way through the movie, my laptop died. (I'd known it was coming, but I didn't know it would happen right then.) So I went to to the living room to finish watching it, and then at the end, the DVD froze up. I don't think I actually missed anything except part of a song, and if that's true, it means there's at least one plot thread left unresolved, at least as far as I could tell. But whatever, it was a reasonably fun movie to watch once, I guess.
