I wanted to see this because it stars Alexis Bledel. It also has some other good stars, including Michael Keaton, Jane Lynch, and Carol Burnett. Um... I don't think the movie is majorly quirky, but it did seem like it was sort of trying to be, and I didn't quite know where else to put my review. It's a romantic comedy, but I didn't feel like putting the review under either "romantic" or "comedy." So, whatevs. It was not very successful financially or critically, but I thought it was alright. Pretty generic plot about a girl whose best friend is in love with her, but she doesn't realize she feels the same way about him until the end. But I found all the characters entertaining enough to make the movie worth watching once.

So, Bledel plays Ryden Malby, who graduates from college at the beginning of the film. She expects to get a job at a publishing company where she has an interview, but instead the job goes to her rival (and class valedictorian), Jessica. So, Ryden has to move back in with her parents (Keaton and Lynch). She also has a weird little brother named Hunter, who has a subplot about wanting his dad to help him build a soapbox car for an upcoming derby. And Ryden's grandmother (Burnett) lives with them. And they have a neighbor (whose name I don't think I ever heard, but the internet says the character's name is David Santiago), with whom Ryden gets vaguely involved romantically. But as I said, she also has a best friend, Adam, who loves her. He's been accepted to law school (on the other side of the country), but he's not sure if he wants to go there or follow a career as a musician.

And I guess there's not much else to say. If you've ever watched this type of movie, you know how it ends. And there was remarkably little drama in getting there; the movie focuses more on Ryden's attempts to find a job and on her quirky family than on her romantic complications. But... like I said, it was alright.
