The plot isn't exactly original. It's kind of like "Big," but with a girl instead of a boy. One difference, however, is timing... but I'll get to that later. First, the movie starts out in 1987, on the 13th birthday of Jenna Rink. Her best friend is a boy named Matt, but she really wants to be friends with a popular group of girls called the "Six Chicks." But they clearly don't like her, though they pretend to, so they can use her. Anyway, Matt gives Jenna a doll house he made for her, as well as some "wishing powder," or whatever. And after the popular girls and guys come to her party, then trick her and leave, she gets upset, and wishes she was 30.

And then she wakes up as a 30-year-old (Jennifer Garner), but unlike movies such as "Big," it's not just that her body has aged... she actually finds herself in 2004, with no memories of the last 17 years. She learns that she became the leader of the Six Chicks, somehow, and her current best friend is Lucy (Judy Greer), the former leader of the Six Chicks, I guess. They both work at a magazine called Poise, which was always Jenna's favorite magazine. And there's competition with another magazine called Sparkle, which somehow has been getting inside information about Poise's plans, and beating them to the punch. So Poise's circulation is dwindling, while Sparkle's is increasing. And they have to try to figure out how to fix this problem.

However, Jenna's kind of freaking out, naturally enough, about suddenly being an adult. But more than that, the more she learns about her life, the more she hates the person she's become. She finds out she stopped being Matt's friend on her 13th birthday, but she now rekindles her friendship with him (now played by Mark Ruffalo), although he's now engaged to a woman named Wendy. Still, it seems Matt gave up on the idea of true love a long time ago... though his old feelings for Jenna start to resurface, now. But he's unwilling to change his plans with Wendy. Well... anyway, this is basically a romantic comedy or whatever, but there's other stuff going on. Like the fact that Jenna hasn't talked to her parents in years, and she's pretty cutthroat at her job, and her sex life is... well, 13-year-old Jenna doesn't approve.

Um... but she changes her ways, and starts getting used to her grown-up life, and comes up with a new plan for a redesign of Poise, which involves Matt, who is a photographer. I also want to mention one of the best scenes was at a party where Jenna gets everyone to start dancing to "Thriller." But that came earlier in the movie. Whatever. I'm not sure what else to say, except it's totally predictable that in the end, she'll find a way to return to the past and make different choices with her life and end up happy and with Matt. It isn't even a spoiler to say such things, because honestly, it would defy every law of the universe to end the movie any other way. Still, it was fairly amusing and fun to watch, even if I feel no need to ever see the movie again....
