This came out in 1980 (when I was 4), but I didn't see it until 2020. There's this summer camp called Crystal Lake. In 1958, a couple of counselors were murdered there, and within a few years, the camp was shut down. We then flash forward to the present (Friday, June 13, 1980), when the camp's new owner is fixing the place up to reopen it, with help from several counselors. (None of them are particularly memorable, but one was played by Kevin Bacon.) And of course, throughout the film, all but one of them get killed. That's pretty much all I can say about the plot, though there were one or two surprises, for me (which I expect I'll reveal if and when I watch the second movie in the franchise). Anyway, for the most part I didn't find it very scary or interesting, but it was tolerable. And of course various aspects of the movie have been copied by countless other slasher movies that came after it. So I guess I'd have to say it's important in that respect (even if some of the things associated with the franchise don't actually come until later in the series).
