The Darkest Hour
(PG-13)This is basically just 28 Days Later, but instead of London, it's set in Moscow, and instead of rage-infected zombies, there are invisible aliens made of energy, that turn people to dust. Seriously, the movies are almost identical, to the point that I don't feel the need to say anything else about the plot of this one. I guess I liked that movie slightly better than this one, but probably only because I saw it first. If I'd seen this movie first, I'd probably like it better, considering I'm more of a sci-fi fan than a scary movies fan. (Then again, I considered putting this review under "scary movies" instead of "science fiction." Or possibly "action/adventure." Because it barely qualifies as science fiction.) Whatever, I'm not exactly a fan of either movie, even if I found both of them entertaining enough to watch once. This one wasn't nearly as well received by critics or audiences as 28 Days Later was, though I'm not sure why. (Incidentally, I haven't heard or read anyone else compare the two movies, which I think is a bit odd, because to me it's super obvious.) I will admit that that movie's probably a bit smarter or at least more original than this one, but I also feel like this one's sort of cooler. But still not something I feel the need to ever see again.
