This came out in 1988, but I didn't see it until 2025. I'm putting my review under "serio-comedy", because Wikipedia calls it a "comedy-drama", but left to my own devices I probably would have called it just a drama. It's got a great cast, and I like all the acting, and the overall story is good. But I just couldn't get as into it as I would have liked to. I did like it, but... I dunno. Just not quite my cup of tea, I guess.

It's set in the town of Mystic, Connecticut, and follows three young women who work together at a pizza place: Daisy (Julia Roberts), her sister Kat (Annabeth Gish), and their friend JoJo (Lili Taylor). It begins with a wedding between JoJo and her boyfriend, Bill (Vincent D'Onofrio), but the ceremony is cut short when JoJo faints at the alter, after hearing the priest talk about how permanent the commitment is. So the wedding gets called off, but the two of them keep dating. Meanwhile, Kat is an aspiring astronomer who is going to be attending Yale at some point. She gets a second (or more?) job babysitting a 4-year-old girl named Phoebe, and quickly bonds with the girl's father, Tim (whose wife is in England for awhile). And Daisy begins dating a rich guy named Charles, who has recently been kicked out of college, and who is a disappointment to his father (much as Daisy is a disappointment to her mother). The three girls are also close with their boss at Mystic Pizza, Leona (Conchata Ferrell).

Beyond that, I don't want to get into any details of the plot. So I don't know what else to say, besides reiterating that it's a good movie that I was only kind of into. And I feel kind of bad about not liking it more than I did. But I'm glad to have finally seen it.
