Lonesome Ghosts (8:48)

This originally came out in 1937, but I must have seen it for the first time in the 80s, when it would air as part of Disney Halloween specials. In 2013, I watched it as a bonus feature on the DVD of The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad, so I decided I might as well write a little review of it.

Anyway, there are these four ghosts who are bored, because they've long since scared everyone away from the mansion where they reside, so there's no one left to scare. One of them spots an ad in the newspaper for ghost exterminators, so they decide to call them up and hire them. The exterminators turn out to be Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, and Goofy. The three of them are excited to have a customer (it doesn't seem like they've ever had any, until now). So they go to the mansion with all kinds of weapons that are completely ludicrous to use against ghosts. And the ghosts proceed to have a great deal of fun messing with them. In the end, the ghosts get scared away, for a reason I won't spoil, but of course it's completely ridiculous. (I want to say that some years after I first saw this, I had an idea for a short story which... was in no way inspired by this short film. But it is sort of similar, so I wouldn't be surprised if people thought it was. If I ever get around to writing it, which I don't know that I ever will.)

Well, the film is reasonably amusing, I guess. And I feel like it's probably at least vaguely an inspiration for the 1984 movie Ghostbusters, but perhaps it's not. (At one point, Goofy says "I ain't scared of no ghosts!" which is very similar to a line... well, come to think of it, I can't recall if the line was in the Ghostbusters movie, or just in the movie's theme song.) Anyway, I dunno what else to say.
