This came out in 1948. I first saw it on TV when I was a kid sometime in the 80s, most likely on The Wonderful World of Disney. I watched it on Disney+ in 2023 so I could write a review. It's one of the Mickey Mouse shorts I remember best, though I have no idea why. Except that it left me with the lifelong impression that seals say "art-art-art". It's a reasonably amusing short, though I'm not sure how much I'd care for it if not for its nostalgic value.
Mickey visits a zoo and feeds what looks like a young seal (it's smaller than the others). The seal then sneaks into his picnic basket and he carries it home. How he didn't notice the extra weight, I have no idea. Nor am I sure how the seal even fit in the basket. But whatever. Pluto discovers the seal, and tries to warn Mickey about it, but Mickey of course has no idea what he's art-art-arting about, so he makes Pluto go outside. Meanwhile, the seal ends up taking a bath with Mickey, and it takes a surprisingly long time for Mickey to discover that it's there. And I reckon that's all I want to say about the plot. There is kind of a funny twist ending, though.
