Rabbit and Deer (16:17)

This 2013 Hungarian short film is about two friends who live together, a rabbit and a deer. They live in a 2-D, stick figure-like world, but one day, Deer accidentally breaks their TV, and has a vision of a Rubik's Cube. This inspires a weird dream, and then an obsession with figuring out, mathematically, what it all means. Eventually he transforms into a three-dimensional, stop-motion animated version of himself. And then he finds a way to enter a three-dimensional world, outside his and Rabbit's house. He brings the still two-dimensional Rabbit with him, but while she's captivated by it all, it turns out to be a dangerous place for her.
Well, it's a really neat blending of animation mediums, but the best thing about the film is the friendship between Rabbit and Deer, even though it's expressed without words. I think my appreciation of the film suffers from the fact that it reminds me stylistically of Get a Horse!, which is superior as far as visual creativity goes. (Which is understandable, since "Get a Horse" is a Disney film instead of a student film, like this is.) On the other hand, I think this one has more heart. It has some amusing moments, and dramatic moments, and some genuinely touching moments. So it's definitely worth a watch.
