This short film was released in 2012, on the DVD and Blu-ray of Brave, to which the short is a sort of prequel. It's also available on the Pixar Short Films Collection vol. 3, which is where I first saw it in 2024.

Actually, I'm not sure whether the bookends of the short are set before or after "Brave", but the witch from the movie tells a story which had been alluded to in the movie. In flashbacks (done in 2-D animation, as opposed to the CGI of the bookends), we learn of a king who died, and passed leadership of his kingdom to his four sons. But the eldest- Mor'du- wanted to be the only ruler, so he went to war against his brothers. It came to a stalemate, but then Mor'du found the witch and asked for a spell to change his destiny, hoping it would help him defeat his brothers' armies. And of course, if you've seen the movie, you know what the spell actually does to him.

Anyway, it's a decent story, I guess. Not something I find super interesting, but it was okay.
