The Spider Within: A Spider-Verse Story (7:14)

This was made in 2023, and released online in 2024 (but I didn't see it until 2025). It's set sometime between Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, despite coming out after the latter movie. Not a lot actually happens in the short, but what does happen is fairly intense. I'm not really sure how much I liked it; I almost feel like my rating is a bit higher than my actual enjoyment of the film. But it's still a fairly decent short.
Miles Morales walks home, with a lot on his mind. He's in a bit of a funk because he's having trouble balancing all the different aspects of his life: school, family, being Spider-Man, etc. When he gets home, he finds his father has planned an evening of watching scary movies together, but Miles just says he's tired and goes to bed. Then he has a nightmare about a dark representation of himself attacking him. It then morphs into a giant spider, and later into countless tiny spiders crawling all over him. It's definitely scary and anxiety-inducing. When he wakes up, he decides to go for a walk with his dad to talk about how much he has on his mind, though of course he can't reveal that he's Spider-Man. So I don't know how much good this talk is going to do him. Anyway, the film just ends shortly after they begin walking and talking, and I feel like it has no real resolution. I think Miles is still going to have a lot of anxiety that he has to mostly deal with on his own. But at least the film is an interesting look into his mind, both conscious and subconscious.
