Macabre (18:56)

This 2015 short film was presented as a Dust Exclusive in 2017, and by Alter in 2019. Re-released by Dust in 2023.

A man's car breaks down at night. He tries to call a tow service, but can't get through. He sees a huge building in the distance, through the woods, and he goes toward it, and enters it. He experiences a wide array of macabre things. I can't really say more than that about the plot, but I will say there's no dialogue, just a very eerie soundtrack. Oh yeah, the music was great. And the visuals were great. (The animation style reminded me of The Amazing Screw-On Head, and eventually things get very M.C. Escher-esque. There's also a heavy Egyptian theme. And... stuff.) The whole film is a major head trip, a real mindscrew, and just pretty awesome. I saw the final twist coming a bit in advance, but it was still the perfect ending (and beginning).
