This came out in 2011, but I didn't see it until 2022. By then there was a sequel and two prequels. I'd probably like to check them out someday. As for this movie, I thought it was fairly good, maybe objectively better than my own appreciation of it. I found it scary enough, but not like super scary. It's definitely got an interesting story, creepy ghosts (and a creepier demon), and a good score.
The Lambert family, including Renai (Rose Byrne) and Josh (Patrick Wilson) and their three children (two young boys and an infant daughter), have recently moved into an old Victorian house. At one point, their son Dalton falls off a ladder in the attic, but seems okay. However, the next day he slips into a coma, which doctors can't explain. Creepy stuff starts happening, and things get increasingly scary for Renai as time goes on. Finally, she convinces Josh that they should move to a new house. Creepy things continue after the move, however. Josh's mother, Lorraine (Barbara Hershey), calls in a medium named Elise Rainier, along with her two assistants, Specks and Tucker. Elise explains what's behind all the creepy stuff, but I don't want to spoil that. I will say that it's all connected to Dalton, who still hasn't woken up. I don't know what else to tell you, but it has a very unnerving ending, which makes me look forward to the sequel.
