This is the sequel to Insidious. It came out in 2013, but I didn't see it until 2025.
It begins in 1986, with Lorraine Lambert calling in Elise Rainier to help her son, Josh, who is being haunted. Elise hypnotizes Josh into forgetting the whole thing, to suppress the abilities that have led to the haunting. The story then flashes forward to the present, shortly after the events of the first movie, in which Elise was killed. The police suspect Josh, but his wife, Renai, doesn't want to believe it. Meanwhile, Josh, Renai, and their kids move into Lorraine's house, temporarily. And paranormal stuff starts happening. At the same time, Elise's former associates, Specs and Tucker, contact Carl, who had been Elise's associate in 1986. He attempts to contact Elise's spirit, to help them deal with events in the present.
Well, for awhile I felt like the movie was kind of meh, but it got more interesting as it progressed. There's a lot going on that I don't want to spoil. Suffice to say, everything apparently returns to normal by the end of the movie. Then there's a scene with Specs and Tucker, as well as Elise's spirit, going to talk to another family whose daughter, Allison, is in a coma. So it looks like that's setting up a sequel, but first there will be a couple of prequels. I don't really know what else to say about this movie, without spoiling anything, but I definitely found it interesting. And I look forward to watching more of the franchise.
