This came out in 2014, but I didn't see it until 2023. It was written and directed by Jim Jarmusch, and coincidentally it's the second one of his films I watched in October of that year. It was pretty well received critically, which I can kind of understand, but I had mixed feelings about it. I guess I liked the idea of the movie more than I actually enjoyed the movie itself. I certainly recognized its good qualities and interesting concepts, but even for all that, I still found it slightly dull.

So. It's about vampires (who call humans "zombies"), but it's far from being a horror movie. There's a suicidal musician vampire called Adam (Tom Hiddleston), who rarely leaves his home. If he needs anything, like more guitars for his collection, his human friend Ian (Anton Yelchin) obtains it for him. Though Adam does go out to a hospital to procure blood to drink. He lives in Detroit, but he's married to another vampire called Eve (Tilda Swinton), who is in Tangier, Morocco. She gets blood from a vampire who happens to be Christopher 'Kit' Marlowe (John Hurt), though he doesn't like Eve calling him that in public. One night she calls Adam, and can see he's not doing well, so she decides to catch a flight to Detroit to be with him. Some time later, Eve's "sister", Ava (Mia Wasikowska) shows up at Adam's place, much to his annoyance.

And I don't want to reveal any more of the plot. But it all seems somewhat random. Adam and Eve are basically just two people going about their lives, who happen to be centuries old, with a ton of history. I think they're a good couple, but I'm sure both their lives were far more interesting in the past than they are now. Now, the whole thing is just fairly morose, especially Adam. It's a good movie, even if I couldn't really specify the things I liked most about it. They're all just concepts, and they're already fading from my memory.
