Okay, so there's this company called Terravex that's drilling for oil near a small town, but there's a body of water deep underground, which is above the oil deposit. The boss, Reece (Rob Lowe), orders his people to drill through the water, despite one scientist being against it. When they hit the water pocket, three CGI creatures shoot out of the well. Terravex manages to capture two of them, but one gets away. Reece wants to keep their existence a secret, because if it was known that there were creatures living in the water, he wouldn't be allowed to drill for oil there. So he has his people, led by a thuggish henchman named Burke, look for the third creature.
There's a teenager named Tripp, who works in a junkyard run by a man named Mr. Weathers (Danny Glover). There, he's been building a monster truck out of used parts. One night... well, let's just say he discovers the creature, which he soon starts calling "Creech". When he discovers that Creech can act as a sort of engine for his truck, he modifies the truck to better facilitate that. Meanwhile, he has a biology tutor named Meredith (Jane Levy), who apparently has a crush on Tripp, though he's oblivious and pretty brusque with her until she finds out about Creech. They want to keep the Terravex people from finding Creech, and ultimately find a way to return him (and the other two creatures) back to their home. And of course they eventually succeed, after a lot of trouble. They also get some help from a scientist named Dowd, who works for Terravex but doesn't want the creatures to be killed, as Reece plans to do with them and all the other creatures still in he underground lake or whatever it is. (Dowd is not the scientist who was against drilling in the first place, in fact he overruled the one who did object, and we never heard from her again. But that was before they knew about the creatures.)
Well, there's not much more I feel like detailing. (But I will say I feel bad for a hell of a lot of car owners in this movie.) It was a little hard for me to decide what category to put my review in. It's kind of an action movie, kind of a comedy (but with a serious element), barely science fiction, and probably could qualify for other categories. Mostly I just thought it was a little weird, though, so that's where I decided to put it. Anyway, it was reasonably fun, and I'm glad to have seen it, but it's not something I care too much about.
