This is the band's fourth studio album, released in 2002. The liner notes contain song lyrics. I wasn't quite sure where to put my review, since the Delgados are a rock band, but this album is more orchestral pop. Since this is the only one of their albums I have, I put it under "art pop". There are twelve tracks (plus a bonus video), but all the sites linked above list only ten tracks, because the U.S. edition has two bonus tracks.

1. "The Light Before We Land": This is the reason I bought the album, because I knew it as the theme song from the anime series Gunslinger Girl. It's quite ethereal, and it remains the highlight of the album, for me, even though I guess it was never released as a single. I'd probably rate it four smileys.

2. "All You Need Is Hate": This is the second single off the album. It's a parody of the Beatles song "All You Need Is Love". It sounds much prettier than the title would suggest.

3. "Woke from Dreaming": This is also fairly pretty.

4. "The Drowning Years": This is a depressing song.

5. "Coming In from the Cold": This is an enhanced CD that includes a music video of this song, which is the album's first single. It's rather catchy.

6. "Child Killers": This is nearly 7 minutes long. I don't think it's actually about children being killed, but I don't know what it is about. I guess it's kinda saddish, though.

7. "Favours": This is another sad song, but I like the sound.

8. "All Rise": I don't know what to think about this song.

9. "Never Look at the Sun": I don't know what to think, but I like the sound.

10. "If This Is a Plan": I don't know what to think, but it's not bad.

11. "Coalman": It's not bad.

12. "Mad Drums": The drums don't sound that mad to me.

So anyway, I don't really know what any of the songs are about, but they all sound good. I should probably try reading the lyrics while listening to the songs, but I'm just not up to it. And I'm not even sure it would help me understand the songs that much. It's a good album, but aside from the first track, I don't find it very memorable. Maybe I'd like it more if I listened to it more often. (That's probably true of a lot of the CDs I review.)
