Benedictine Monks of Santo Domingo de Silos: Chant Noel
AllMusic; Amazon; Discogs; Wikipedia
This was released in 1994, following the surprise popularity of the album "Chant", which was released earlier that year. (I wanted to get that album, but I never did.) Listening to "Chant Noel" in 2021, I like it, but having no knowledge of Gregorian chant, I'm not really qualified to comment on it. Nothing about it sounds Christmas-y to me, but I suppose it might if I knew Latin. And there's no way for me to possibly tell the various chants apart, let alone specifically remember any of them. They all sound pretty much the same to me... and no doubt would sound the same as the chants on the previous, non-Christmas album. Well, the 16th track, "Gloria in excelsis Deo" (which is only 31 seconds long) would put me vaguely in mind of Christmas because that line is part of the song "Angels We Have Heard on High", although here it sounds pretty much nothing like it does in that song. Still, the album does sound good, even if I don't understand it.
