How the Grinch Stole Christmas soundtrack
AllMusic; Amazon; Discogs; iTunes
This was released in 1995. It's a soundtrack to the 1966 TV special.
1. How the Grinch Stole Christmas: This is just the whole story, recited by Boris Karloff. I don't care about it, and I'm not considering it in my rating of the album.
2. Welcome Christmas: This is mostly just the opening music from the special.
3. Trim Up the Tree: This doesn't really sound to me like it does in the special, which is disappointing, but it's still kind of fun.
4. You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch, by Thurl Ravenscroft: This is a classic, and the original rendition of the song will always be the best.
5. Welcome Christmas (Reprise): This is the whole song, unlike the second track. It's another classic, though I wouldn't say it sounds exactly like it does in the special. Still, I like it a lot.
Well, minus the story recitation, this is a very short album, and that makes it hard to rate. That and the fact that two of the songs don't quite sound the way they do in the special, for which I have to deduct points. Although on the other hand, "Welcome Christmas" might be longer than it is in the special, I'm not sure. Both that and "Trim Up the Tree" have a more polished, studio sound to them, which I think is both good and... less good. So yeah, it's really hard for me to rate the album. I actually kind of love the three songs, but out of the context of actually watching the special, I don't care about them as much.
