Leftover Cuties: Christmas Time is Here
AllMusic; Amazon; iTunes; official website
This EP came out in 2012. It's just 6 songs, but they're all quite decent. I like the music, but I especially like the singer's voice.
1. Santa Baby: This sounds like, what would I say? Jazz? Maybe lounge music? Whatever, I like it, even if it's not the best rendition I've ever heard.
2. Winter Wonderland: It's quite nice, but again, not my favorite.
3. Blue Christmas: The music on this one seems to me to alternate between some Mexican genre, mariachi or something, and zydeco. Anyway, it's nice.
4. Christmas Time Is Here: The title track is a very lovely cover of this song from the 1965 TV special A Charlie Brown Christmas. I haven't heard a lot of covers of the song, so it's hard for me to compare it to anything other than the original. And I'm not sure which I like better. It kind of seems like sacrilege to say this one's better, but it's a close call. Certainly this one sounds more professional, but the other's got nostalgia going for it.
5. Jingle Bells: This is kind of jazzy, but with some other aspect I can't quite put my finger on. I almost want to call it a torch song, but that's probably not right. There's something sort of slinky about it. Maybe salsa or méringue. Or maybe something completely different. Anyway, it's good.
6. White Christmas: This time the music definitely seems to have a Mexican flavor, I'd say. And then... I dunno, Dixieland or something. But as always, the actual singing sounds American. Whatever that means. And as always, it sounds good.
