Tony Bennett: Snowfall - The Tony Bennett Christmas Album
AllMusic; Amazon; B&N; Discogs; official website; Wikipedia

This is a 1994 CD reissue of an album originally released in 1968, though the songs are in a different order, plus there's a bonus song that wasn't on the 1968 album, "I'll Be Home for Christmas". (Bennett was having quite the resurgence of popularity in the mid-90s.) I'm listening to it again in 2021 to write a review.

1. My Favorite Things: My favorite rendition will probably always be by Julie Andrews in The Sound of Music, because nostalgia. But this one's quite nice, too.

2. The Christmas Song: My favorite version will probably always be Nat King Cole's. But this is quite nice, too.

3. Santa Claus is Coming to Town: My favorite rendition will probably always be by The Jackson 5, but this is nice, too. Part of it sounds soft and intimate, as if he were actually singing to children, while part of it is much more loud and big band.

4. Medley: We Wish You a Merry Christmas/Silent Night/O Come All Ye Faithful/Jingle Bells/Where Is Love? ...Bennett is accompanied by a choir on most of these songs. The last one is unfamiliar to me, but Wikipedia informs me it was in the musical "Oliver!", though I'm not sure why it's part of a Christmas medley.

5. Christmasland: I believe this is an original (or was in 1968). It's nice, but not something I find memorable.

6. I Love the Winter Weather/I've Got My Love to Keep Me Warm: I'm not familiar with the first part of this, but the latter part is familiar enough, even if I can't remember who all I've heard sing it before. But this is nice.

7. White Christmas: This is good, but I feel like he drags out a lot of words too long.

8. Winter Wonderland: This is nice enough.

9. Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas: This is nice.

10. Snowfall: I heard this just recently on a CD by The Manhattan Transfer, and already I've forgotten what their version sounded like. And while this version is fine, I won't be remembering it, either.

11. I'll Be Home for Christmas: This is a live performance on "The Jon Stewart Show" (which I've never seen, because I didn't have cable at the time). It's nice enough.

So, this is one of those albums that's mostly familiar songs, so the only thing to make it stand out is how much you happen to like the singer's voice. And I like Bennett's well enough, even if I don't find any of the songs particularly thrilling. It's definitely an album worth having.
