Kick-Ass: Music from the Motion Picture
AllMusic; Amazon; Discogs; Wikia; Wikipedia

This is the soundtrack to the movie Kick-Ass. It came out in 2010, but at the time I believe it was only available as a digital download. I guess I probably bought it from iTunes (though it might have been Amazon, I forget), and burned it to disc. Since then I think it's been released as a proper CD, though the artwork seems to have been changed. The tracks have dialogue from the movie between the songs, but I won't be listing all those bits here. The soundtrack lacks the song "Crazy", by Gnarls Barkley, which also appeared in the movie. (I'm kind of disappointed about this, because I like the song, but also kind of don't care, because fuck CeeLo Green.)

1. "Stand Up", by The Prodigy: This is instrumental. Sounds kind of fuzzy, which made me wonder for a bit whether the sound of my CD-R had degraded over the years. But I don't think so. Anyway, it's pretty cool and really gets you pumped up. Ready to fight crime, or whatever.

2. "Kick Ass", by Mika vs. RedOne: If you look at track lists on websites like Wikipedia, the title includes a parenthetical "(We Are Young)", but it doesn't on the image I downloaded from iTunes or wherever it was. Not important, though. The song totally kicks ass, and I've listened to it many times on my mp3 player, so it's pretty familiar to me. Another good song for fighting villains or whatever.

3. "Can't Go Back", by Primal Scream: This one I don't remember, but it's also really cool.

4. "There's a Pot Brewin'", by The Little Ones: Another song I don't remember, but it has a quirky sound to it that I quite like.

5. "Omen", by The Prodigy: This is a cool bit of electronica. I don't find it as memorable as "Stand Up", but I like it.

6. "Make Me Wanna Die", by The Pretty Reckless: This is one that I do find memorable, I guess I had it on my mp3 player for awhile. It's probably the first song I ever heard by the band, and I think it's a pretty good introduction to them. It really rocks.

7. "Banana Splits", by The Dickies: I never saw "The Banana Splits Show" or whatever, so it's not familiar to me from that, but anyway, it's really sped up for the film, which I think makes it much cooler, and makes me think of Hit-Girl kicking bad guys' asses.

8. "Starry Eyed", by Ellie Goulding: This might be the first song I heard by the artist, and I really like it. It's another one I had on my mp3 player for awhile. It's not a rock song like most of the songs on the soundtrack so far, but rather electro-pop.

9. "This Town Ain't Big Enough for Both of Us", by Sparks: Another song I don't remember, but it's fun, glam rock from 1974.

10. "We're All In Love", by New York Dolls: Yet another song I don't remember. It's a hard rock song, and not, as the title might make you think, a love song. (At least I don't think it is.) If I'm being honest it's probably my least favorite song on the soundtrack, but it's not bad at all. I think I could get to like this song a lot more if I listened to it more often.

11. "Bongo Song", by Zongamin: This is instrumental. It's kinda fun and funky, but it really doesn't need to be five minutes long.

12. "Per Qualche Dollaro in Pił (For a Few Dollars More)", by Ennio Morricone: This is from the 1965 movie For a Few Dollars More, and it definitely has the feel of a spaghetti western, like any Morricone music I've ever heard. It's pretty different from the mostly rock songs on the soundtrack, but it's some old-school badass music.

13. "Bad Reputation", by The Hit Girls: This can't hold a candle to the original by Joan Jett, but it's still fun. I think this version inspired me to get the original on mp3, though. I don't mind hearing this version, for a change of pace.

14. "An American Trilogy", by Elvis Presley: This is a medley from 1972, incorporating three different 19th century songs, only two of which were familiar to me. It's my least favorite track on the album, partly because I'm just not wild about the sound of it, and partly because it evokes the American Civil War, which isn't fun.

Anyway... yeah, for the most part, the soundtrack kicks ass, as it should. It's got some songs I find really memorable and fun, and most of the ones I don't find memorable I still think are pretty cool. It's a great fit for the movie.
