My So-Called Life: Music from the Television Series
AllMusic; Amazon; Discogs; Wikia; Wikipedia
This is the soundtrack to the TV series My So-Called Life. It was released in 1994 and re-released in 1995, and I'm reviewing it in 2025.
1. "Make It Home", by Juliana Hatfield: I kinda remember liking Hatfield back in the day, though I've never known too much of her work. This song isn't familiar to me, but it's nice.
2. "Soda Jerk", by Buffalo Tom: I don't recall whether or not I was ever aware of this band. But this song is kinda cool, I guess.
3. "Genetic", by Sonic Youth: I was only vaguely aware of the band, but this song is kinda cool.
4. "Petty Core", by Further: I'm pretty sure I never heard of this band, but the song is okay.
5. "Drop a Bomb", by Madder Rose: Not sure if I had heard of the band or not. The song is kinda cool.
6. "Fountain and Fairfax", by Afghan Whigs: I'm sure I had heard of the band, but I couldn't name any of their songs. This one is okay.
7. "South Carolina", by Archers of Loaf: The name of the band is vaguely familiar, but I don't know any of their songs. This is kinda cool.
8. "Dawn can't Decide", by the Lemonheads: I had heard of the band, but I'm not sure if I've heard any of their songs before. This is okay.
9. "The Book Song", by Frente!: I don't think I had heard of the band, but this song is nice enough.
10. "Come See Me Tonight", by Daniel Johnston: The name is vaguely familiar, but I'm not sure if I know any of his work. This is decent, though.
11. "My So-Called Life", by W.G. Snuffy Walden: This is the show's theme music, and it's the only track on the album that I find memorable. It's the shortest track, of course, at just over a minute, but it's probably the only reason I'd bother holding onto the album after this re-listen.
Well, none of the songs were familiar to me, but they were all decent, and the album is altogether pretty '90s. It would be nice if it could be nostalgic for me, but it's not.
