This started as a page for any discontinued foods & drinks I used to like and now miss, but then I decided to make it one of my "nostalgia" pages. So that means some of the things listed here will still be available. But because of the original plan, it also includes things from any time throughout my life, unlike my other nostalgia pages, which are mostly limited to the 80s and early 90s. (See also Christmas foods & drinks.)
Alien Pops
Lollipops in the shape of alien heads. There was probably just one store I saw these in, back in the early 90s. There'd be a bunch of them in a bucket that was also shaped like an alien's head.
Andes Candies
Still readily available, these are definitely a candy I liked when I was a kid.
Arch Deluxe
A McDonalds burger marketed in the mid 90s as a more "adult" taste than their usual fare. I loved it, but it didn't last long. For some years after it was officially discontinued, I think it was still possible to order it in some places, if they still had a chart on hand for how to put one together. But those days are over, now, sadly.
Big League Chew
You can still get this, but I think it's less common than when I was a kid. Honestly, bubble gum doesn't get much more 80s than this.
Candy buttons
This is just... something I remember liking as a kid, so I have a sense of nostalgia about it. But when I've tried it more recently, it just doesn't have quite the same appeal. And anyway, my sense of nostalgia about this candy has always been vague, at best.
Candy cigarettes
Used to like these when I was a kid, and especially I liked a similar thing, bubble gum cigarettes... which had powdered sugar or something between the paper wrapper and the bubble gum, so you could blow it out like cigarette smoke. But just plain candy cigarettes were more common. And now I can only find those in very rare places, and I don't think I can find the bubble gum version at all.
Cappio
A bottled iced cappuccino drink made by Maxwell House in the early 90s. It had cool commercials, and I really liked the drink, and I really don't understand why it was discontinued. In the years since then, lots of similar products have been put out by lots of companies, so I guess Cappio was just ahead of its time. I'm also pretty sure it was superior to any of the bottled iced coffee drinks you can buy today, but that could just be my nostalgia talking.
Clark's Teaberry
One of my favorite types of chewing gum since I was young. And it can still be found in some places, luckily.
Crystal Pepsi
This was Pepsi that was clear, made in the early 90s. I don't remember the taste, but I'm fairly sure I liked it. Although I also remember an SNL sketch that mocked it (crystal gravy).
Edit: it made a comeback in 2016. (Wikipedia lists several separate comebacks in 2016, 2017, and 2018, but I was never aware of the details or of it going away after the first comeback. I feel like I've just seen it in certain stores consistently since the first comeback.)
Dragon Fire gum
Hot cinnamon gum that came in a cool tin. Good stuff. Shame it's been discontinued.
Fortune Bubble
A bubble gum that came with a fortune. Like fortune cookies, but... bubble gum.
French's Sweet Onion mustard
This is still available in Canada, but hasn't been in the U.S. for years. We used to get it in little glass jars, and it was my favorite mustard ever.
Fruit Stripe gum
The gum with the zebra. Still readily available, but I rarely feel inclined to get it anymore. Once upon a time, though, I thought it was awesome.
Fun Dip
Flavored sugary powder that you eat with a stick made out of sugar. What could be better?
Go-Go
This was an energy drink that I remember seeing at Whole Foods, probably in 1999. And I have never seen it anywhere since.
Grand Lyon Bordeaux Ketchup
From the mid 90s, this was ketchup made with wine, and it was awesome.
Jelly Babies
My sense of nostalgia for these isn't so much about having eaten them myself, but rather always seeing the fourth Doctor on Doctor Who eating or sharing them. Since they're a British candy, they weren't available where I lived, though years later I did get some from a couple of different stores. That was several years ago now, and I do miss being able to get them (though I assume I could order them online).
La Vie de la Vosgienne Les Framboises
This comes from France, as you might guess from the name. I'm not sure if you can still get them in stores, but I definitely loved them when I was a kid, and feel quite nostalgic for them.
Little Hug Fruit Barrels
Juice that comes in little barrel-shaped plastic bottles. I didn't remember the name (nor am I 100% sure that this is actually what I'm thinking of). But I definitely had something like this, when I was little. It could have been a different brand, I'm not sure.
Nerds
Still readily available, this must have been one of my favorite candies, in the 80s and/or early 90s.
Nik-L-Nip
An odd thing that I used to like... odd because it's just such a tiny amount of juice inside wax shaped like a bottle.
Orbitz
A soft drink from the late 90s, which had floating gelatinous globules in it. It's not surprising that it didn't last, but I liked it. (I remember one time when I bought it, a cashier asked how I could drink it, and I said "It helps to be insane.") But honestly, it wasn't quite as weird as you might expect. And probably a few years later, I learned of the existence of bubble tea, which is kind of similar (except for not being a soda).
Pepsi Blue
Introduced in the early 2000s, this was a sort of blue-raspberry flavored soda. It didn't last long, but I liked it, and I wish I could still get it.
Pop Rocks
Still readily available, this was pretty cool when I was a kid.
Razcal
A raspberry/lime soda from the mid-90s, which was awesome.
Rock Candy
Flavored, crystallized sugar on a stick. Seems to me a basic white flavor of these would come in some children's cocktail drinks I used to get at a Chinese restaurant, but also there was a wide variety of colors and flavors to be found in various stores. And they still can be found in some places, but I don't see them often, anymore.
Rolo
Of course you can still get this, but I do have a vague sense of it having been one of my favorite candies, when I was young.
Root beer barrels
A kind of candy that is nostalgic basically because I remember it. I'm not sure how much I ever liked it, but I guess it was okay.
S&OK
A Maine brand of sodas that I used to get in the 90s. I particularly remember liking their raspberry soda, which I equated with the TV series Dharma & Greg. I just thought the show "tasted" like that soda.
Slush Puppie
I'm sure you can still find these beverages somewhere, but I don't believe I've seen them in years. I remember when I was a kid, there was a store like right next to a pizza place, that had a Slush Puppie machine. And I think when I was a bit older there was a different store with one of the machines. But... yeah, I miss these. Even if I never could get the syrup to slush ratio right.
Snapple Elements
A line of juice drinks introduced by Snapple in the late 90/early 00s. I especially remember liking "Rain," which was agave-flavored. Also the "Atomic" jacked apple.
Sour Patch Kids
Still readily available at stores everywhere, these were pretty cool when I was a kid.
Squirrel Nut Zippers
One of my favorite childhood candies, these are still available in some places, but they can be really hard to find.
Strawberry bon-bons
Of course you can still get these, but they are very nostalgic to me. (When I started this page, I wasn't sure if you could find them anywhere except online. But since then, I've seen them in some dollar stores.)
Strip-o-Pops
These were my all time favorite lollipops. Unfortunately, I haven't seen them in years. I've found similar looking lollipops that taste little or nothing like the ones I remember from my youth. Man, do I wish I could find these things....
Sugar Babies
A caramel candy which is still readily available. I always loved these (way more than their counterparts, Sugar Daddy and Sugar Mama).
Swedish fish
One of my favorite childhood candies, which luckily are still readily available pretty much everywhere.
Tequiza
An agave-flavored beer that I don't remember well, but I'm pretty sure I liked it.
Warheads
Candy that could be either very hot or very sour. I remember them being really popular when I was in high school in the early 90s. They're still around, but I'm not really interested in them anymore, because these days I don't think of candy as a good way of "proving" anything.
Wax lips/fangs
These things can still be found in some places, but I think they were more common when I was a kid.
Zima
An "alternative" to beer, which was similar to Smirnoff Ice, which was produced from 1993 to 2008. It was kind of the butt of a lot of pop culture jokes, but I liked it, the few times I had it (in the late 90s).
Edit: It made a comeback in 2017, supposedly as a limited release, but I'm still seeing it in stores in 2018.
