Caution: potential spoilers.

This came out in 2000. I'm not sure when I first saw it, whether it was when it first came out or sometime later. But I watched it again in 2024, to update my review. And... it was okay. I didn't like it that much at first, but it grew on me a bit as the story progressed. It never got to be what I would call good, but it had some vaguely entertaining aspects.

13-year-old Adam Hansen wants to go to a concert with his friend, but he ends up getting grounded for the weekend by his divorced mom, Lynette (Caroline Rhea). Adam's older sister, Chelsea (Laura Vandervoort) also gets grounded, so she can't go on a date. Adam decides they should set their mom up on a date with some guy who placed a personal ad in a tabloid, to get her out of the house for the night so he and Chelsea can each go ahead with their own plans. They arrange for Lynette to meet the guy at a supermarket. His name is Dimitri (Charles Shaughnessy), and he and Lynette immediately hit it off. But Adam and Chelsea's 8-year-old brother, Taylor, discovers that Dimitri is a vampire. His siblings don't believe him at first, but Adam later discovers that Taylor was right, and convinces Chelsea to go along with him to try to save their mom from Dimitri, even though it would be awhile before Chelsea herself came to believe he was a vampire. Meanwhile, Taylor contacts a vampire hunter named Malachi Van Helsing (Robert Carradine). Van Helsing has been hunting Dimitri for quite some time, so he's eager to help Taylor, who hides out in Van Helsing's car when he goes looking for Dimitri and Lynette. Eventually, all three children and Van Helsing work together to save Lynette, who in turn ends up saving them.

It's all pretty cheesy and silly, but also slightly amusing and fun. Probably not a bad movie for young kids to get introduced to the concept of vampire movies. I mean, kids older than Taylor, but maybe even a bit younger than Adam. And I guess it has elements that could be somewhat enjoyed by older kids or even adults who are already familiar with all the tropes and simplistic vampire lore in the movie.
