Turkey Drop, on Freeform
Freeform; IMDb; Thanksgiving Specials Wiki; TV Tango

This first aired in 2019. Since I don't get Freeform, I didn't get to see it. It was on Hulu for awhile, but somehow I didn't watch it there, either, and eventually it expired from that site. But I finally watched it in 2025 (the day before Thanksgiving), on Freeform's website. It was mostly predictable, but I liked it.

A first-year college student named Lucy Jacobs (Olivia Holt) is in a long-distance relationship with her boyfriend, Jordan, whom she had dated all through high school. She's looking forward to seeing him again when she goes home for Thanksgiving, but her roommate suggests that Jordan is probably planning to "turkey drop" her (which means "dump her on Thanksgiving"). When she goes back home to her family, Lucy is constantly worried about that, and tries to make herself more interesting in various ways, to ensure he won't dump her. (He keeps wanting to have a talk with her, and she keeps avoiding it. I kind of thought maybe what he wanted to talk about was something totally different from dumping her, maybe even propose to her. But I won't spoil what actually ends up happening, when they finally do have that talk.) Anyway, Lucy's family includes her parents, Nancy and Ron, her brother Leo, and sister Lydia. Leo's best friend, Dean, has been staying with the family as well as working in their pizzeria. Lucy has never liked him, so it's obvious almost immediately that their relationship will end up evolving into a possible romantic one. Lydia has also brought her girlfriend, Anna, home to meet the family.

There's a subplot about Lucy's father suspecting Nancy of having an affair, which just about all the other characters eventually begin to suspect, as well. I'll say that I very much doubted that she was, but I wasn't really certain that she wasn't. I won't spoil how that plot point turns out. There's also a girl named Katie, who is friends with Jordan, and is obviously trying to steal him away from Lucy. And Leo says he has a girlfriend, whom none of the family have ever met, but no one believes him. I won't say how that turns out, either. Among the ways Lucy tries to prevent Jordan from dumping her, she decides to cook Thanksgiving dinner for her whole family, which Jordan and his mother will be attending. Of course, she's no good at cooking. And she joins him (and Katie) in a 10-k run called the Turkey Trot, a local tradition which Lucy has never taken part in because she's not a runner, unlike Jordan and Katie. Meanwhile, she grows closer to Dean, much to her surprise. And I'll say that for most of the movie, I couldn't really root for either Jordan or Dean to be the one she ended up with, because they're both nice guys. But I do think that aspect of the story ended as it should have. And, um, all kinds of hijinks ensue throughout the days leading up to the holiday, and the day itself, but I don't want to spoil all of that. After Thanksgiving, Lucy returns to college, and the story flashes forward to Christmas.

And, yeah, I think that's all I want to say about the plot. But I thought it was a reasonably fun and funny movie, with decent characters and character development. I'm sure it won't be super memorable to me, but I'm definitely glad I finally saw it.
