This was originally a spin-off of The Cosby Show, when Denise Huxtable went to Hillman College (her parents' alma mater, which was mentioned several times over the course of that show). However, she was only in the first season; it ran for five more seasons after she left. I should say that I didn't get NBC at the time this aired. And while my local CBS affiliate aired the Cosby Show (as they did with various other networks's shows, just before prime time), I don't remember if they aired this or not. I seem to think I watched it on a Canadian channel that didn't come in very well. Anyway, I don't remember the show as well as I'd like to. But I do remember thinking Dwayne Wayne was a cool character. (I liked his flip shades.) And while I don't recall particularly liking Whitley Gilbert's personality, I'm sure I found her amusing and attractive. I also vaguely recall the characters Jaleesa and Ron, and the fact that Sinbad was in the show, and the fact that Cree Summer (who I'd later think of mainly for voice work in a lot of cartoons) was in the show. If I ever watched the show again, some other characters would probably be familiar. I wish I could think of a better description of the show than just saying it was about a bunch of college students, who happened to be African-American. I guess the show dealt with some serious issues, but I basically just think of it as a sitcom, albeit a pretty good one. It'd be nice to see it again, someday.
