Emmys (rotates annually between ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC)
official website; Wikipedia
Awards for television. This started in 1949, long before I was born. I have no recollection of whether I ever actually watched the awards, but I feel like it's possible I did, in the late 80s and/or early 90s. If I ever cared about it, I haven't cared in years.
Grammys, on CBS
CBS; official website; Wikipedia
Awards for music. This started in 1959, long before I was born. I'm certain I watched the awards with some regularity in the late 80s and/or early 90s, but it's been years since I did so.
Kids' Choice Awards, on Nickelodeon
Nickelodeon; Wikipedia
Awards for various forms of entertainment. This started in 1988, but it wasn't possible for me to have seen it before 1996. And I really don't think I've ever actually watched it, but once I became aware of it, I liked the idea of it. I suspect if I ever bothered to watch, it would have the potential to become my second favorite awards show (after the MTV Movie Awards), but... I dunno. For whatever reason, I've never bothered. Or... maybe I have seen at least a few minutes of it, one year or another. I just don't remember.
MTV Movie Awards, on MTV
MTV; Wikipedia
Awards for movies. This started in 1992, but I'm not sure when I first watched it. It couldn't possibly have been before 1996. Whenever it was, it quickly became my favorite awards show ever, and since then I've tried to watch it whenever I could. I've probably missed some years, but it remains the only awards show I really care about. Um... I should say it includes funny sketches and film paraodies and whatnot. Musical performances. Awesome award categories. Cool hosts. And... I dunno what else to say.
In 2017, it was renamed the MTV Movie & TV Awards.
MTV Video Music Awards, on MTV
MTV; Wikipedia
Awards for music. This started in 1984, but I couldn't possibly have watched it prior to 1996. And in fact, I have very rarely bothered, because it just isn't all that important to me, unlike the MTV Movie Awards. However, if I was going to watch one music awards show, it would be this one. I do sometimes watch it...
Awards for movies. This started in 1929, long before I was born. I'm sure I must have watched it at some point, though I would think... it may not have been possible for me to do so until around 1996. I'm not sure. Anyway, it's been a long time since I've cared about it to any significant degree, but I suppose it's more important to me than things like the Emmys or Grammys. In theory.
People's Choice Awards, on CBS
CBS; official website; Wikipedia
Awards for various forms of entertainment. This started in 1975 (the year I was born), but I don't recall being aware of it before the late 80s or early 90s. I probably watched it at least a couple of years around that time, but it's been a long time since I've cared enough to bother.
Teen Choice Awards, on FOX
official website; Wikipedia
Awards for various entertainment and stuff. This started in 1999. I believe it was inspired by the Kids' Choice Awards. I feel like I should be at least a bit more interested in this than the KCAs, but I'm afraid I'm considerably less interested in it. I very much doubt I've ever watched it. But at least I like the idea of it.
I'm sure I've at least occasionally seen some other awards shows, over the years. I know I watched some Canadian awards when I was a kid, such as the Junos or the Geminis. And I must have watched the Tonys at least once. And probably something on Spike, like the Scream Awards or the Video Game Awards, maybe. And I've a vague interest in some awards I've never seen (which probably don't even have televised ceremonies). Anyway, for a list of numerous awards, see tek's links: awards.
