History Channel documentaries

I don't watch a lot of History Channel, but I have occasionally seen something of interest to me. I'm afraid I don't have much to say about any of these things, but here's a list, anyway...

Celebrating the Green: The History of St. Patrick's Day
Amazon Video; History Channel

I know I've watched some special about St. Patrick's Day on History Channel, though I don't remember what year I did so or if this was the one I actually watched. But it probably was. I don't remember anything about it, but I'm sure it was okay.

Comic Book Superheroes Unmasked
Amazon (DVD); IMDb; Wikipedia

This did a pretty good job talking about the history of comic books, from the beginning, up through the state of the industry today. Which isn't as good as it should be, unfortunately. Comic books totally rock. Very cool, and also often pretty smart, and a great reflection of the times, even an influence on the times, sometimes. Dunno what else to say.

Fantastic Voyage: The Evolution of Science Fiction
Amazon (DVD); IMDb

Can't think what to say about it that the title doesn't suggest all by itself. It was hardly a comprehensive history, but I think they did better than one might've expected, with just two hours.

The Haunted History of Halloween
Amazon Video; History Channel; History Shop; IMDb

This airs every October. Talks about how Halloween came to be, going back to Pagan times, Celtic rituals, the Church taking over, Dias de los Muertos, all the changes that happened in colonial America, up through the present day. It's pretty interesting stuff. If you like Halloween, which happens to be probably my favorite holiday. And... I guess the channel did another special, "The Real Story of Halloween." I'm not sure if I saw that or if it was really much different from this at all. But that's another one you might want to check out, I guess.
