Caution: potential spoilers.
This hourlong special (and series finale) of Phineas and Ferb aired in June 2015, but I didn't see it until September 2024, on Disney+ (on the last day of summer). I spent most of the time I was watching it thinking I probably wouldn't rate it higher than four smileys, but guess what? I did rate it higher! One heart!
So, as the title suggests, this takes place on the last day of summer. So Phineas and Ferb and their friends are trying to enjoy it as much as possible. As usual, Candace tries to bust them, and fails. Then she goes to return some DVDs to Vanessa, and while there she presses a button on one of Doofenshmirtz's inators, which makes the day start over, repeatedly. Only Candace and Doof are aware of what's happening, so Candace keeps trying to bust her brothers, and Doof tries to become tri-governor before Perry can stop him. Unfortunately, rifts start opening in the space-time continuum, and sucking objects through into a pocket dimension. And when they disappear, no one remembers the existence of those objects except Candace and Doof. Things get really bad at the end of the first half of the special (I suppose I could call it the middle of the special, but watching it on Disney+, it was broken up into two episodes, so...) when Phineas and Ferb get sucked up, so no one remembers them. Candace has to try to convince Isabella, Baljeet, and Buford of what's going on, but because they didn't know Phineas and Ferb, they'd retroactively never met Candace, either. Meanwhile, Doof tries to build a new inator to stop the day from repeating, while also trying to get Vanessa to change her mind about moving to her mother's place.
I don't want to reveal how any of this ultimately plays out, but of course it's really cool and amusing and touching. And there will be some major changes for both Doof and Vanessa when fall starts, but we don't actually see that. It's interesting stuff, though. And there's a fun song at the end about a ton of things everyone had done over the summer. Also at one point there were groundhogs.
