2016 Summer Olympics (Aug. 5-21)

Held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I suppose, for the sake of posterity, I should say there have been various controversies surrounding Rio before the games, but the only one I know anything about at all is the Zika virus. (And I don't know much about that.) But I'm not going to let it concern me.
Friday, Aug. 5: I watched the opening ceremony, which was good I guess, but I don't expect to remember it. (Also I had some Lay's Brazilian Picanha flavor potato chips. Apropos, no?) Listening to the commentators, one thing I liked is that tree seeds will be planted for (or by?) each of the 11,000 athletes competing in this year's games. And I learned things like the fact that golf will be an Olympic event for the first time since 1904. And I think they said this year has the highest ever percentage of women competing in the Olympics. And... already I've forgotten most of the other things they've said. Oh, also, there's a small delegation of "independent" athletes from Kuwait, and another small delegation of refugee athletes from four different countries. Neither of those are situations I recall being aware of in previous Olympics (though it's entirely possible I've forgotten).
Wednesday, Aug. 10: First of all, I'm sorry to say I haven't watched any events yet. However, this morning I watched a YouTube clip of "Last Week Tonight," in which John Oliver talked about the opening ceremony. So that was fun.
Friday, Aug. 12: I happened to be in front of the TV for about a minute, while a girl was doing "trampoline," which I don't recall ever hearing of being an Olympic event before. But all the tumbling in the air that she did after building up enough momentum did seem cool. Maybe that's an event I'd like to see more of sometime, if I'm ever in the mood to watch an entire event. (Which I'm generally not, these days, on account of depression and whatnot.)
Sunday, Aug. 21: The closing ceremony happened, but I didn't watch it. Just like I didn't really watch any of the Olympics since the opening ceremony. Sigh. Maybe next time.

Held in Pyeongchang, South Korea. I suppose sometime before the Games started this year, I might have had a vague interest in it being held in South Korea, just because the summer games had been held in Seoul, South Korea, in 1988. But by the time the Games started, I had no interest, mainly because of depression. So I didn't watch any of it at all this year, and unlike years past when I missed most or all of the Games, this year I couldn't really manage to even feel bad about missing it.
