Blade: The Series, on Spike
IMDb; TV Tango; TV Tropes; Wikia; Wikipedia

This ran for one season in 2006, but I didn't see it. In fact, I still haven't seen most of the series. But in 2024, I watched the 2-episode pilot in movie form, because it came in a set that also includes the three Blade feature films. I was initially planning on putting my review of the pilot movie, known as "House of Chthon", in my TV movies section, but I changed my mind. Because there's a faint chance that maybe someday I'll get around to watching the whole series. I have no idea if or when that might happen, and honestly, it probably won't. But I do think the pilot works better as a pilot than as a standalone movie. And I liked it just barely well enough to spark some small interest in seeing the rest of the series, which came as something of a surprise to me.

Apparently this is set after the third "Blade" movie, but there's a completely new cast, and I don't feel like it's important to have seen the movies before watching the series. In the pilot, a soldier named Krista Starr returns from Iraq and learns that her brother, Zack, has been murdered. The police are no help, as they just chalk it up to a gang killing, but Krista is positive Zack wasn't in any gang. So she begins investigating on her own. Meanwhile, Blade is busy killing vampires, as usual, and in particular he and his weapons designer, Shen, are searching for the House of Chthon, a powerful sect of vampires that are apparently run by a guy named Marcus van Sciver, who had killed Zack. Blade and Krista's investigations eventually intersect. And... I'd rather not spoil any more details of the pilot, even if it would be necessary to do so if I ever did see the rest of the series and write a full review of it.

So, yeah, I don't know what else to say. I just thought the pilot was almost as good as the movies, though I'd understand if anyone else thinks it's nowhere near as good. I'm sure some people have both a higher opinion of the movies than I do and a lower opinion of the series. But whatever, I liked what I've seen of it.
