I'm sorry to say I didn't see enough of this to rate it.

The Nightly Show, on Comedy Central
Comedy Central; IMDb; TV Tango; TV Tropes; Wikipedia

This was hosted by Larry Wilmore, who is somewhat familiar to me as a correspondent on The Daily Show. The Nightly Show premiered in January 2015, taking the timeslot of The Colbert Report, which had ended in December 2014. And this show ended in August 2016, after two seasons. I watched it for awhile at the start of its run, and I liked it well enough, but... I'm just usually not up that late. So I fell out of the habit of watching pretty soon. I always expected I'd tune in occasionally, but before I knew it, it was over, and I'm kind of sad about that. Anyway, here's what I wrote early on, based on what little I did see:

So... Wilmore talks about a specific news issue each night, mostly making jokes about it, but also taking the issue seriously. So, it's a lot like the Daily Show. It also kind of reminds me of Politically Incorrect, which I used to occasionally watch back in the 90s. Like that show, this one includes a panel of different people to join in the conversation about whatever issue Wilmore is talking about. (When I started writing this entry, I noticed that Wikipedia also says the show has been compared to Politically Incorrect, so it's nice to know I'm not alone on that.) The one thing I remember most about that show is that I always found it frustrating that the panelists basically had to constantly interrupt and talk over each other, rather than taking turns, and the conversations could get heated. Well, that doesn't seem to happen on this show, as far as I've seen. Though I do think the format of the show doesn't really give each person enough time to fully express their point of view, which can't be helped when you're talking about complicated issues within a half hour that also needs room for jokes and commercial breaks. Still, I do think the Nightly Show is reasonably entertaining and thought-provoking.
