Hilda, on Netflix
Council of Geeks; Facebook; IMDb; Mercury Filmworks; SPT Kids; TV Tango; TV Tropes; Wikia; Wikipedia

This is based on a series of British graphic novels, which I haven't read. The animated series began streaming in 2018, and I'm not sure if I was aware of it at the time. I feel like I probably was, because it's the kind of thing I might have put on my website's calendar, even though I had no chance of watching it, because I don't get Netflix. But I did eventually see Council of Geeks do a video review of the first season. (They compared it to Over the Garden Wall, an animated miniseries I loved. The comparison wasn't exactly favorable, but overall, they did say they would recommend "Hilda".) And in 2023, I started watching it with my cousins/friends Matty and Jamie, who did have access to Netflix. We finished the first season in February 2024, but which time there were two more seasons and a web film, so I'll have to watch those at some point. Anyway, I really like the animation style, and the characters, and fantastical creatures (which come from Scandinavian folklore), and... everything. It's a fun, cute, whimsical, amusing, interesting series which has a mostly light, breezy tone, though the stories sometimes get a bit harrowing. It's something that can be enjoyed by both kids and adults. Oh, and I like the theme music, which was composed by Grimes.

Season one
Hilda (voiced by Bella Ramsey) is an adventurous 11-year-old girl, who lives in the wilderness with her mother, Johanna, and a cute little pet deerfox named Twig. Hilda likes meeting and befriending magical creatures. In the first episode, she meets a tiny elf named Alfur, who will spend a lot of time with her throughout the series. In the second episode, their home gets destroyed by a giant, so they all move to the nearby city of Trolberg. Hilda is upset about moving, at first, but she soon joins the Sparrow Scouts, where she makes a couple of new friends, Frida and David. And the three of them end up having lots of adventures together, and meeting all sorts of magical creatures (some good, some not so good). Beyond that, I guess I don't want to spoil any details of the things that happen throughout the season. But like I said before, it's a fun show.
