Dream Big, Princess, on YouTube
Disney; DisneyNOW
This isn't so much a webseries as it is a campaign. It launched in 2016, and I kind of stumbled into it in 2018 (though I feel like I must have heard of the campaign before that), and then watched all the vids on YouTube in one night. (They're all quite short, like 30 seconds to a few minutes, most of them one minute or less.) Let's see, what can I tell you? Um... the campaign is partnered with the organization Girl Up. Most of the vids over the first two years use the song Hall of Fame, by The Script feat. will.i.am, though in 2018 it starts using the song Live Your Story, by Tina Parol (subsequently covered by Auli'i Cravalho). Throughout the series, there are scenes from various Disney movies featuring strong female characters, and there are real girls talking about how Disney princesses inspired them (and some scenes of the girls doing things they've been inspired to do).
Well... mostly I like this, though my feelings are slightly mixed. I mean, I think it's sad that there's any necessity to specifically tell girls to, you know, believe in themselves, be themselves, reach toward whatever goals they have. But given that it is necessary, I find things like this inspiring. And I feel like just because it's targeted towards girls doesn't mean boys can't be inspired by it, too (not that that's in any way necessary to justify the importance of inspiring girls). And of course... as much as it may seem, to some degree, like just another way of marketing Disney movies, I must admit that I love these movies, so I don't mind the marketing of them... and I love the fact that the movies and their heroines can be genuinely inspiring. And, other than that... I dunno. There's some good music, as I mentioned before. And it's just... a nice little series of short vids. It's fun.
