Witching Season Films, on YouTube
Amazon; Facebook; IMDb; YouTube
This is a YouTube channel anthology of horror short films, which I think all take place on the same Halloween (though the five films were released between 2015 and 2017). The anthology is also on Amazon.
Lethal Repair (7:42)
YouTube
Some guy gets a call to come repair a typewriter. When he gets to the house, there's no one there, but some unseen presence types messages to him. I dunno what else to say. It's all pretty "meh." (This isn't actually part of the anthology, it's just sort of... on the YouTube channel.)
Killer on the Loose (14:57)
Halloween Short Films; IMDb; YouTube
On Halloween night, a woman is on the run from a pursuer. She hides out in a house, but the pursuer follows her. And... there's a twist ending that I pretty much saw coming.
Princess (17:22)
IMDb; YouTube
A woman and her young daughter move into a new house. On their first night there, the daughter goes down into the basement looking for mice she thought she heard. Instead, she finds a box of stuffed animals, and selects a rather creepy-looking one to hold onto for the night. This turns out to be a bad idea, but the story doesn't end quite the way you might expect. (It's definitely a bit more interesting than some of the other short films in this anthology.)
Not Alone (9:25)
IMDb; YouTube
A man wakes up at night and sees a creepy, shadowy figure in his room. He grabs a bat and prepares to defend himself, which I found rather commendable, but... of course things don't turn out so well, and ultimately the film isn't particularly memorable.
They Live Inside Us (31:34)
IMDb; YouTube
This is easily the best film in the bunch. A writer goes to a supposedly haunted house, where 30 years ago a man named Jacob Boothe killed his wife, Cynthia, and then killed himself. And he says spirits that refuse to accept the truth of what happened are doomed to repeat the events over and over. He hopes to find inspiration to write a terrifying story in the house. We see dramatizations of his story (or stories) each time he tries to write it, each time with a different sort of killer chasing the same woman. But he always ends up rejecting each version of the story, and starting over. Meanwhile, strange things are happening in the house, which gradually mess with the writer's head. The film's ending is what I expected it to be from the very start, but it was still pretty effective.
In 2020, this 2016 short was expanded into a feature-length film of the same name. I finally started watching it in 2023, but before too long I decided it wasn't good enough to continue with.
Is That You? (11:14)
IMDb; YouTube
A teenage girl named Whitney is stuck at home on Halloween, because she's got a broken foot, or whatever. Her mom's in the holiday spirit, but Whitney isn't. She has a vague hope that a friend might come over, but that's unlikely, because the friend is hanging out with her boyfriend (whom Whitney thinks is gross, for some reason). And... then a wraith shows up, or whatever. Meh.
